Home sweet home

We had such an amazing time. George and I want to thank everyone for all your help in making the trip possible. I will try to post video over the next few weeks...but I need to edit through 250 clips that Georgie took. :) If you want more pics...Just ask!

London Cate Date!

We met up with one of our favorite people for the day. Cate is studying in Ireland and came down to see us yesterday. We saw the Tower Bridge (often mistaken for the London Bridge), explored residential London, saw the Tate Modern Museum and ate at my favorite restaurant...Belgos. Perfect Sunday. We even had brunch at a little pub called "the George" (how perfect is that?!)

We are now off to Harrods for some shopping and then spending the rest of the day strolling around Parliment. We have had an amazing trip. We will be home tomorrow. See you soon.

Venezia!

Venice was beautiful. We had a lovely time. We spent most of our time walking on the streets (well...the ones that weren't made of water) or hanging out in San Marco square. Everything was sparkling with sunshine, water, music and beauty.





We went up the Camponile and saw a breathtaking view of everything and we went on a Gondala (sp?) ride throughout the watery streets. We are back in London now, and will be here until Tuesday. My best friend Cate is meeting us in the morning and we plan to visit Harrods (the only place to shop in London :)and the Tate Modern Museum. Everything has been amazing. We were just discussing over dinner what a perfect trip this has been. Miss you all.

Firenze

A little bit different then I had remembered. Very busy...got on a bus that took us outside the city by accident....but we made it back...eventually. Our B&B is on the third floor (which really means 4th)....with no elevator. But still cute. Lots of walking. The Duomo (which is what florence is famous for) was a little overrated (George thinks it could use a good power washing...dad). But the statue of David was well worth the hour wait to see. Magnificent! We had a lovely lunch and have met all kinds of people along our journey (two from Kentucky just now). We spent the rest of the afternoon walking amongst the palace gardens with stunning views of Tuscany and the city. We are off to dinner and we will be on our way to Venice in the morning. Can't wait to share it all with you. Wish you were here.

Assisi

There is no better word to describe it...breathtaking. We arrived early this afternoon and discovered our incredible B&B. It is fantastic with a courtyard overlooking the valley of Umbria. We have had amazing wine and wonderful food. :) Assisi is on a GIANT hill...so a lot of walking...most of it up hill. But we have decided this is the perfect place to live....so we are just going to stay.....miss you! love you. Come visit soon.

Roma...Day 3

We have enjoyed Rome so much. It is such a beautiful city. We walked down to the Roman Forum. It is the ruins of ancient Rome. It was sooo amazing. The sun was shinning and the breeze was blowing and the ruins just came alive. It was breathtaking.

We also went inside the Colosseum....simply wonderful. We had lunch in the piazza Novana and went strolling at the Spanish steps with a late dinner. We sat in front of St. Peter's Basillica at night to see it all lit up. We are off to bed. We are rising early to go to the top of the Chapel and then we are off to Assisi by train. Pretty sure no internet there....we will try. Love to you all...

Roma...day 2

Day two started out with a complimentary breakfast from he hotel columbus. We had bread, bread, ham, cheese, and bread with a little coffee.

Immediately following breakfast, we went straight to the Vatican which was around 8 45 (for you scorekeepers at home). A short 2+ hours later we were in. The wait in line was made a little easier with the american friend that we made standing in line. Her name was Sara from WV. She is a curator at a museum in South Dakota here on business. Turns out 4 of the oldest instruments made by the worlds most famous instrument maker guy are at her museum.

We saw the School of Athens







and the Sistine Chapel among other countless pieces of art.







In addition we saw St. Peters Basilica, the Pantheon,









San Marco Statue, Piazza Novana and the night version of the Trevi Fountain.

A pretty well rounded day.

Everyone of them was a highlight.

In Roma

We made it! We started the day in Amalfi...took a bus ride (11am) to Solerno...and just barely caught a train to rome (12 30). The train ride was beautiful...and we took a bus from the train station to our hotel columbus (4 30)...which is 200 meters from The Vatican. The hotel is lovely. It is a converted monostary.



We dropped our bags and ran to the Spanish steps (1 mile)

and then to the Trevi Fountain (1.5 miles)

and then to the coloseum (2 miles) and then back to the Vatican for dinner on the streets of rome at a lovely restaurant. Ash had a canolini and I had rigatoni with wine (chianti), dessert and (illy) coffee. It was perfection. We then took a qick visit to the Vatican at night to see it all lit up and now we are about to check in for the night (10pm).

We are having a great time and have met all kinds of nice people (Italian and English alike).

Amalfi

hello! We are about to leave the Amalfi coast and wanted to drop a line or two to say we made it....depsite the cab ride from hell...more details later. We have the most beautiful room overlooking the sea and Almalfi is just as breathtaking as we imagined it would be. We love you and miss you. We are off to Rome.

Next is Italy!

We are finishing up our second day in England and loving it. Last night we saw the play "Boeing, Boeing". We laughed until we were both crying. It was great! We caught a late dinner at a Turkish cafe....it was...interesting.



Today, we went to Hyde Park and saw the new memorial for Princess Diana. It is really lovely. You are allowed to sit on the side of the fountain and splash your feet in the water. It was so cute to see the little children and old ladies "paddling" away (it would be perfect for baby Joseph).

We also saw Westminster Abbey today. It is amazing. George was impressed with the amount of famous dead people all squished into one building. We also had some Lebanese food for lunch and Ash hasn't gotten sick from it....yet. We are off to Naples/Almalfi coast tomorrow. Again, can't guarantee access to Internet, but we will try. If not, we will be able to post again when we are back in London next Saturday. Can't wait to share all the adventures. We are having a great time. Love you all.

We have made it!!

Hello everyone! We are safe and sound in rainy London. We had a great flight, slept most of the way and have had a full day already. We visited my old flat on Abbey Rd., took a walk around the neighborhood and visited all my favorite places.



We also revisited Big Ben, the London eye, Buckingham palace, green park, st. james park and took a tour of the Churchill museum and war rooms. All and all, a full and awesome day. We are off to grab some dinner and maybe catch a play. We will try to post again tomorrow and maybe some pics. Hope everyone is doing great! We love and miss you all.

Preparing to go...

George and I are almost ready for our European adventure. We are so excited. We will try to share a few pics as we go. However, if we are unable to, we will use this to share some of the adventures afterwords. We will miss everyone! This image is from our last trip to London three and a half years ago. :)
